A QUICKIE REMINDER FROM WILBUR ON NOT-TO-MISS EVENTS THIS MONTH --
Sunday September 18th: A Raw Food Workshop with Chef Debra Chase. This one-day workshop on raw food preparation and the living food lifestyle teaches you how to bring more living foods into your life without losing any of the fun or flavor. Inspired by her mother and vegetarian stepdaughter, Debra, a Certified Raw Food Chef, is a self-taught traditional gourmet chef, with over three decades of professional experience, including fine restaurants. Workshop cost: $60 per person, plus tax, including recipes, instruction in creating raw meals and free food gifts.
September 23-25: Guest Chef Weekend with Chef Rachel Fann, with special guest, Dr. David Watts reading from his newest book, Bedside Manners: One Doctor's Reflections on the Oddly Intimate Encounters Between Patient and Healer.
-- A chef at Esalen since 1991, Rachel Fann, is a member of Esalen's massage crew, a talented painter, and co-owner of a catering business called Labor of Love. Food cost: $100 per person extra, for five healthy, gourmet meals.
-- In addition this weekend, Dr. Miller's colleague and friend, Dr. David Watts -- physician, poet and NPR commentator for "All Things Considered" -- will read from his short stories from the practice of medicine entitled Bedside Manners: One Doctor's Reflections on the Oddly Intimate Encounters Between Patient and Healer. David Watts trained first as a classical musician, then as a medical doctor. Cost: Complimentary.
September 30 – October 2: "Listening to Plants Through Art," a workshop with Julia Goerlitz. Everyone can communicate with plants; it is simply a matter of learning the language! Come explore how to deepen relationships to plants, the spirits of nature and the land we share. A practicing herbalist, Julia Goerlitz, BFA, CEAT, has studied art, nature and health, taught at the Creative Juices School of Wild Heart Painting and now teaches privately. Workshop cost: Sliding scale $90 – 125, including drawing and painting materials. Class size limited to 16 people.
