NOTES FROM THE CARETAKER |
||
People often ask me: "You have been practicing clinical psychology for 50 years. What are the most important tools for maintaining physical and mental health?" My response typically includes: relationships, self awareness, fresh air, clean food and water, physical movement, an ongoing realization that only the now really exists and an active sex life either with one's self or with a partner. Those of us who live and/or work in urban environments are challenged to maintain a balance of these essential tools. Enter Wilbur Hot Springs. Wilbur is a perfect place to practice balancing oneself for there are few, if any, technological distractions and plenty of ways to commune with oneself, ones partner and with nature. Recently I have taken up bike riding at Wilbur as a way to spend time with myself and with friends, while taking in the natural beauty. Please say hello the next time you are at Wilbur. I am the very tall, lean guy with the smiling eyes and laughing heart.
